Sunny McDonald couldn't be more different than her identical twin Rayne. Sunny plays field hockey, is the understudy for the star of their high school musical, and has an unrequited crush on high school hottie Jake Wilder. Rayne is Goth and very interested in vampires. She even blogs about them.One evening Rayne convinces Sunny to go with her to Club Fang for some vampire fun. Once there Sunny is hit on by another real hottie. Magnus picks her out of the crowd and takes her outside. Sunny thinks there will be a little kissing. She isn't expecting to be turned into a vampire!
Magnus has mistaken her for her twin and accidentally turned her into a vampire. She hasn't studied or filled out the forms or done anything that would qualify her to become a vampire. She doesn't want to be a vampire. When she finds out that there is a cure, she wants it even if it means traveling to England with Magnus and finding the Holy Grail.
While she and Magnus are together, Sunny begins to question whether or not she wants to become human again or spend an eternity with Magnus. This was a fun story with a pitch-perfect teenage voice. The story was written in 2006 and some of the cultural references might seem a little dated to today's readers. But the story of a young woman torn between two very different futures will resonate with today's readers quite well.
And that cliffhanger ending...

I loved the entire idea of this novel - the plot was brilliant. HOWEVER, I absolutely hated the female lead. If it wasn't for her sister and Magnus, I would've stopped reading because she was absolutely the worst. I love a good vampire romance - just not annoying, whiny, childish females. I absolutely feel horrified for Magnus - let's hope Sunny matures since she's obviously got quite a life to continue living. I have higher hopes for book 2 because Rayne seems much more mature. *Fingers Crossed*
OMG! I was surprised when I found this book while browsing. I read this series when it was first released and have the books, hiding somewhere in storage.
Anyway, I was happy to see it and get to read the series over again. Was fun to read the first time and this time too. I remember rooting that things would work out for Magnus and that Sunny would figure out what was important. But, like most teen books, you have to have some teen drama before the main characters get their heads out of their butts to get their HEA.
I read this book a long time ago and loved it. As soon as I finished the first one it prompted me to catch up on the rest. This new edition made me feel like I got to read the story as new again. I still see Magnus as Orlando Bloom lol though Ian is just as yummy of a visual. If you are looking for a good YA or even just a good vampire story with some kickass heroines this is the series for you. To this day I feel a comradery with both twins though I feel closer to Rayne. I love the mixing of historical with the fiction. They meld together perfectly. It's not all serious and has just the right amount of comic relief. I can't wait to catch up on the next book in the series.
A case of mistaken identity gone wrong, and now Sunny is dealing with the fact that she’s bound to a vampire and becoming undead herself. Except that she likes the sun and everything that goes with it, which does not include moody vampires like Magnus. As they search for a cure though, it’s cute to see how the little things they thought they didn’t like about each other, turn out to be the exact things they have in common with one another. I felt Sunny’s pain as she was torn between wanting to turn back into a human and remain by Magnus’ side forever, and I couldn’t help but fall in love with Magnus, despite his mistake. He was adorable in his own vampire-like way.
I remember reading this years and years ago and loving it, so when I saw that it had been updated I had to re-read it. Well, I enjoyed it as much as I did the first time!!
So this focuses on Sunny and her twin Rayne. They are like chalk and cheese!! Sunny is a straight A student and never breaks the rules, but Rayne is a Goth and loves trouble. When Rayne asks Sunny to come to a club with her she reluctantly agrees. At the club, she is mistaken for her twin Rayne and is accidentally bitten by Magnus. Sunny, having no idea that vamps are real, starts freaking out. Rayne tells her that Magnus is a vampire and was supposed to turn Rayne. There is a strict set of rules to follow to become a vampire and Rayne met the criteria, but Sunny was bitten and is about to turn into a vampire in 7 days! Sunny doesn't want this life and convinces Magnus to fix his mistake. What follows was a fun and entertaining read.
One thing I like about this book was Sunny and Rayne. We don't see much of Rayne but what we do see of her was awesome. Now Sunny was just such a likable character. All she wants ti for Jake Wilder to notice her and to do good in school, instead, she is slowly turning into a vampire and has been thrust into a world she knew nothing about. I loved how she reacted to finding out she was turning into a vampire!! It felt "real", and by that I mean that she started to freak out, which I'd definitely do, and thought that Rayne and Magnus was crazy. She didn't start believing till she had proof. So often, if something like this happens the MC, they just brush it off, so it was nice she had a normal reaction.
Magnus..... Sigh, Magnus rocks!! He is definitely a swoon worthy hero. When he realises that he made a mistake with Sunny, he does everything in his power to try to fix it. He was just such a nice man!!! Even when he starts to have feelings for Sunny, he knows that he needs to do the right thing and help her.
Anyway, this was a lighthearted and fun read.... Berta!!! Lol. This is the type of book where you say you will just read a chapter or two, but end up enjoying it so much that an hour has passed and you have read chapters and chapters! It's full of lovable characters and plenty of laughs and will keep you hooked. Thoroughly enjoyable!!!
